Welcome to the Hingham Historical Society's 87th Annual Historic House Tour. In keeping with our efforts to promote the preservation and appreciation of Hingham’s historic townscape, we’ve constructed this website to enable tourgoers to enhance their experience long after the tour itself is over. This year's tour stretches the boundaries of our traditional tour format by including two 20th century houses designed expressly for their residents, The Morris Whiton Houses of 1927 and the Potter Home of 1968. Both houses are examples of an individual artistic vision, which nonetheless takes its inspiration from the traditional vernacular architecture that epitomizes the Hingham townscape. For those that aren’t able to attend the tour, we hope this site will give at least a taste of the varied richness of Hingham’s architectural heritage. We also hope that our guests are inspired by the creativity and adaptability our generous homeowners have shown in making their houses comfortable and eminently livable, all while remaining mindful of the forebears who put their indelible stamp on Hingham’s houses.
